Q852 Console - Eco-friendly aspects of

The Quantum 852 console has been designed to be as eco-friendly as we are able to make it. It is considerably more capable per watt than the SD7 console and still more capable per watt than the Quantum 7 console. This is a significant improvement as part of our eco-design ethos.

Some of the improvements within the Quantum 852 which have allowed us to achieve this are;

- The use of highly-efficient GOLD-POWER power supplies translates into less power consumption. These prevent build-up of a resistive layer between dissimilar material types over time which can cause resistive losses in the power tree. Compared to older consoles this means there will be an improved performance over time.

- All of the electronics for the Quantum 852 have been designed using low-voltage differential signalling where possible, this allows for a reduced power consumption on all PCBs.

- The aluminium chassis is designed to be manufactured from recycled aluminium. However the control of supply if not currently within our remit. The balance can be up to 50-60% recycled material but this very much depends on the mill producing the sheets.

- All of our internal plastics we have changed from ABS to a material called Richlite, this is made from post consumer recycled paper/cardboard and/or FSC-certified paper. The screen holder we are currently testing with a view to change from ABS to PLA or a water-based PU.

Attached is a spreadsheet that we have been working on as part of our DiGiCo ESG Design Guidelines. We apply these guidelines to all product and Q8 has particularly been designed as eco-friendly as we are able to make it. The spreadsheet takes comparable features of our new consoles and applies a capability weighting, in terms of how important to an end user each feature is. We then multiply the number of each feature by this capability weighting to provide a total capability score for the console. This figure is then divided by the console weight and console power consumption to provide a like-for-like capability per kg and capability per watt.

An additional eco-friendly business factor is that we support, maintain and continue development on products for a minimum 10-year life cycle. Sea shipping as opposed to air freight is always our preferred method and our products are designed and manufactured in the UK.
